What's it like growing up in a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank?

When hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced during the creation of the state of Israel in 1948, many sought refuge in areas that were not far from their homes. That was the case for many who fled Jerusalem to an area only a few miles away on the outskirts of the city of Bethlehem. They thought they would be staying there temporarily, however, 77 years later those same Palestinians, along with their descendants, have never returned to Jerusalem.

They live in the Aida refugee camp, which is one of 19 official refugee camps in the occupied West Bank. For most of its residents, it's the only home they've ever known. I spent a couple days in the camp to get a sense of what it's like for the youth growing up there.
